Each year, the Defenses of Washington Garrison 65 located in Arlington, VA participates with other patriotic societies to observe Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery and always on 30 May as originally prescribed by the Grand Army of the Republic, America's first great veterans organization.  The ceremony is conducted at the Old Amphitheater in the national cemetery where it was first will  lead the official party and guests in prayer.  Adjutant Andrew Johnson is privileged to recite General Logan's General Order 11 proclaiming "Decoration Day" and instructing Americans in its proper observance.
